About Us

Jurong Town Council manages the 53,600 housing, shop and office units in Jurong GRC. Over the past five years, the Town Council has been working hand-in-hand with the Members of Parliament, community leaders, councilors, Residents’ Committees and other agencies to enhance the living environment of our residents.

On 25 March 2006, we launched our five-year Town Renewal Plan to highlight the list of works to be undertaken from 2006 to 2010. Going forward, the Town Renewal Plan will be the blueprint to guide us on the improvement works. In the pipeline is a comprehensive range of improvement works, which include upgrading programmes and cyclical works.

Upgrading Programmes

Various upgrading programmes were introduced progressively since 1990 as part of the Government’s Estate Renewal Strategy for HDB estates. Such upgrading programmes bridge the standards between the older estates and the newer Towns. The value and the condition of our flats were also enhanced after the upgrading.

The following upgrading programmes were implemented/completed.

Cyclical Maintenance

Cyclical maintenance is carried out to preserve the facades of our buildings and in up-keeping the quality of our fittings and fixtures. The Town Council schedules the housing blocks within the Town for cyclical maintenance which include rewiring, repairs and redecoration and re-roofing.

Improvement Works

Residents can expect more family-friendly amenities to be built under the Town Renewal Plan. These amenities will be built with the young, the youth, the adults, the families and the elderly in mind. The new or upgraded amenities include covered walkways and numerous recreational facilities such as skate parks, pavilions, fitness corners and children’s playgrounds. In addition, we have also installed barbecue stations, fitness areas with multi-generation fitness equipment, pavilions, cozy corners, interaction squares, toddlers’ playgrounds, covered multi-function hall courts, entrance gateways, anti-junk mailboxes with shopping basket holder, hard courts, etc.

Under the list of upgrading plans, lift upgrading, in particular, will be accelerated to cope with the needs of the ageing population. Elderly-friendly and user-friendly amenities have also been installed around the precincts to facilitate seamless movement. In December 2005, the Town Council, together with HDB, started a pilot project in Blocks 242 to 265 Bukit Batok East, to transform the precinct into a more elderly friendly environment. Ramps, strategically positioned, have made moving around in wheelchairs, marketing trolleys, baby strollers, etc, easier and possible. With more funding, we hope to extend these improvements to other parts of the Town.

We will continue to engage our residents to cultivate greater involvement and participation. We will also leverage on the expertise of other agencies to explore ways by which we can better improve the lives of our residents.
